FAQs

Who is GREY SHED STUDIO?

LeGoullon Photography LLC is an Arizona limited liability company owned and operated by William “Bill” LeGoullon and doing business as GREY SHED STUDIO. Services are usually conducted by Bill himself, but are occasionally subcontracted to additional photographers, assistants, retouchers, drone pilots, and designers. For more information, please contact Bill directly by clicking here.

Where do you work?

GREY SHED STUDIO is located in Phoenix, Arizona and works primarily throughout the southwestern United States. However, client services should not be restricted by borders. Wherever your project might be located, GREY SHED STUDIO is always up for a plane ride.

Do you only shoot for architects?

This ain’t no one-trick pony! GREY SHED STUDIO provides professional services to all kinds of clients and does a large amount of work for artists and art institutions, commercial and residential real estate firms, developers, independent designers, and even editorial publications such as The Atlantic, Bloomberg Businessweek, VICE Magazine, Dwell, and The Guardian. You can click here for a comprehensive list, or request additional portfolios by contacting GREY SHED STUDIO directly.

What services (other than photography) do you provide?

While specializing in the photographic documentation of designed and built environments, GREY SHED STUDIO also provides Drone Photography Services, Videography, Floorplan Drawing Services, Art and Video Direction, Styling, Design Consulting, and Editorial Commission Work. That said, if you have another idea… let’s chat!

What are your rates?

Because GREY SHED STUDIO offers a variety of services to a diverse range of clientele, rates vary quite a bit depending on what is being photographed and how. That said, there are a few main things that determine pricing including: project scope and size, type of work and/or market, image count, licensing, and of course - time... Whatever your project might entail, big or small, GREY SHED STUDIO does its best to accommodate the needs and budgets of all clients. To discuss pricing in more detail please contact GREY SHED STUDIO directly by clicking here.

What is cost-sharing?

Sharing the cost of a project is a common and valuable practice. It is very beneficial to consider other parties who might benefit from photographs of your project, whether they be the owners, designers, creative partners, sub-contractors, consultants, tenants, management teams, etc. GREY SHED STUDIO charges a third-party licensing fee (which is cheaper than an entire photoshoot) to each additional party allowing for usage rights of images. Clients can then divide the total fee by the number of parties involved, which can lead to huge savings for each client.

Who owns the images after a shoot?

LeGoullon Photography LLC (GREY SHED STUDIO) / William LeGoullon is the sole author and owner of any and all images and/or intellectual property it produces and reserves all reproduction rights, including the right to claim statutory copyright and full ownership of the imagery conceived, created, or developed. LeGoullon Photography LLC shall have the sole right to file copyright registrations with the US Copyright Office but shall have no obligation to do so.

Clients will retain image licensing and usage rights for their own specific use in promoting the client’s business, representing a client’s portfolio, public relations, planning, marketing, and advertising of a project. Alternative uses may be discussed with GREY SHED STUDIO directly. When appropriate and applicable, client is required to provide professional image credit (more info below). The license granted to client does not include the right to sublicense or otherwise allow any use of any of the rights to third parties, including but not limited to client affiliates, agents, third party social media accounts, third party vendors, contractors, subcontractors, real estate brokers/brokerages, architects, designers, interior designers, engineers, construction companies and/or publications (both online and in print). Images received by a client are non-transferrable and may not be shared, distributed, or sold to another party whatsoever without the express, written consent of William LeGoullon. Any unauthorized usage of images by a third party and/or publication is strictly prohibited. Third party usage rights must be obtained from GREY SHED STUDIO directly, fees may apply. If you’d like more information, we are happy to provide you with a copy of our standard contract with detailed information about licensing and photoshoot terms.

In other words … think of it like software. When you “buy” software you don’t actually own it, the software company does. But, you have purchased a license to use that software for your specific needs. That said, this doesn’t mean you can install it on other people’s machines. Each of those other people (friends, family, neighbors, etc.) would need to license their own copy from the software company directly.

What type of licensing is included in your fee?

Unlike some photography companies, GREY SHED STUDIO believes that when you purchase usage rights for images you should be able to use those images for as long as you want. There is no time restriction placed on a client’s licensing unless specifically stated as part of a signed contract. Certain restrictions may apply to editorial projects/commissions. When you pay the licensing fee you are being granted usage rights to the images. Depending on a client’s needs, these usage rights can differ, but typically include the following: Portfolio Use, Marketing, Advertising, Website and Social Media (image credit is required when appropriate and applicable), and Professional Competition Submittals. The licensee granted to client does not include the right to sublicense or otherwise allow any use of any of the rights to third parties. NOTE: It is requested that GREY SHED STUDIO be informed of and contacted by any publications before sharing images. Photo-Releases should be presented to GREY SHED STUDIO directly. It is encouraged that questions about these permissions be discussed during initial project planning phases.

Can I share images with third parties for them to use?

Permissions to share images, rights, or licenses with third-parties are NOT included with licensing fees unless specifically stated as part of the a signed contract from GREY SHED STUDIO. It is encouraged that these discussions are to be addressed during the quoting process (cost sharing may apply) and before any services are conducted. Others interested in using images must obtain appropriate usage rights from GREY SHED STUDIO in order to avoid infringement. This includes third party social media accounts and publications (both online and in print). More information listed above.

How do I provide proper professional image credit to GREY SHED STUDIO?

In order to evidence that GREY SHED STUDIO is the owner of the copyright with respect to all imagery provided to clients, and to give the proper professional credit to GREY SHED STUDIO, clients shall cause the following notice to appear visibly near or at the bottom of each reproduction of imagery whenever it is used in print, online, or on social media platforms: “© GREY SHED STUDIO” or “© GREY SHED STUDIO for Clientname”. For Instagram specifically, the text caption must include “@greyshedstudio” and the credit should read “Image or Photography by @greyshedstudio”. These attributions should be included in the initial post’s caption or text, not in a subsequent comment. Tagging @greyshedstudio is also appreciated.

Can I purchase usage rights to images you created for another client?

In most cases… Of course! Simply contact GREY SHED STUDIO with details on which image(s) you are interested in and why. Pricing information will be sent. Once discussed and confirmed, GREY SHED STUDIO will provide an invoice, followed by a link to download the image(s).

Why should I read over your policies form and/or contract?

Each client is provided with an appropriate policies form and/or contract when first discussing GREY SHED STUDIO’s services and potential involvement in their project(s). It’s highly encouraged to read through the provided paperwork as it contains important information such as how to prepare for a photoshoot, what to expect in the event of poor environmental conditions, image delivery, cancellation policies, and licensing terms. Should you need a copy of the appropriate policies form and/or contract, GREY SHED STUDIO is happy to provide you with one.

What’s with the name?

The name “GREY SHED STUDIO” was simply inspired by an old grey shed in Bill’s backyard of a 1920’s bungalow-style home in the Coronado Historic District of central Phoenix. The shed has since been replaced with repurposed shipping containers.
